What is Pilates?

The Pilates method is a unique body conditioning system developed by Joseph Pilates at the beginning of the twentieth century.

This repertoire of movements strengthens and tones the deep core muscles while lengthening the body. It improves posture, flexibility, coordination and balance.

Pilates movements are often small but precise, requiring full concentration of mind and body, which are united into each movement. These exercises are not static or isolated; fluidity is key and movement should flow.

The Joseph Pilates repertoire of movements is suitable for all ages and abilities. It improves your posture and helps you with minor back and joint issues.

Mat or Equipment?

Pilates can be performed on a mat or on specially designed equipment.

Mat classes are gentle and although it is safe for most people to exercise in a group environment, some require one to one tuition.

One to one classes on the Pilates equipment is a very safe practice.
It is ideal both as a post rehabilitation exercise or as a way to increase your performance as an athlete, dancer...

Always check with your doctor, physiotherapist or osteopath beforehand.

If you are not sure if a class would be suitable but would like to try Pilates, give me call. I would be very happy to talk to you and discuss your needs.

What should I wear?

You can wear any comfortable clothing that will allow you to move with ease. Pilates is practised without shoes or trainers, so you can either have bare feet or wear socks if you prefer.

About the instructor

Ana's PIlates style is influenced by both her interest in Scaravelli yoga and her previous background in art. Breath, fluidity, space, form and colour and more enrich her teaching.

Ana brings all the experience she has gained by working at two Osteopathic Centres in south London and the Elizabeth Sharp Physical Health centre. She also mentors in the Polestar teacher training courses.
